Structural

The proposed structural system is a post tension transfer slab on floor 3 in order to reduce the thickness in the original slab. The residential floors of the building will be framed with wood. The lateral resistance will be made or CMU blocks around the stairwells and the elevator core.

Construction Breadth

The effects of the change to a wood framing system from a masonry block and plank system will also need to be studied. The change will significantly affect the building schedule, as wood has a faster construction time than masonry block. Construction timelines for residential buildings are very important to owners because they want to make a profit as soon as possible. Because of this, the payback period will also be investigated. As part of the construction breadth, a study will be conducted to compare the overall cost of each building design and the payback period for each building design.

Acoustical Breadth

In residential apartments, noise is often a concern to the building tenants. A structural system with CMU block and hollow core floor plank is going to absorb more sound than a building framed with wood and wood floors. A study must be conducted to see how significant this loss in sound absorption is. These apartments will be rented to college students and that comes with loud music, yelling, and parties. It is important to understand how sound will travel through this building for the owner to ensure and provide a quality environment that students will live in.
